Superpowers with a strong interest in the Arctic and the High North dominate the news. It is about security policy, strategic positions, and access to resources. The power struggle over Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland) clearly shows how indigenous peoples' homelands are pawns in a global game. When tensions between states rise, indigenous peoples can end up in the crossfire. We see this in the Arctic, we see it in Asia, and we see it in the Americas.

15 December 2025 - In late November, under the lights of New York City, history was made. The drama series Oro Jaska was competing for an International Emmy—the most prestigious television award in the world.
It was the first Sámi drama produced in over a decade. Just a few years ago, the idea that a story from our communities would stand shoulder to shoulder with global television giants would have been dismissed as absurd. Yet, there we were.

20 June 2026 - A star’s heliacal rising symbolises a new phase in our traditional calendar. It’s Puanga, known internationally as Rigel. Like Matariki (Pleiades) Puanga heralds the new year, especially for many Māori on the west coast of Aotearoa New Zealand. Across the Pacific, this time marks more than just the start of a seasonal cycle. It is a sacred space for reflection, renewal and remembrance. A time to honour those who have passed and to carry their legacies forward.
