Andrew McNaughton is Kaiurungi Hangarau (Director of Technology, Operations and Strategy) at Whakaata Māori. With over two decades of leadership in media and broadcast operations, Andrew brings deep expertise in transformation, innovation, and operational excellence. He leads the organisation’s technology, infrastructure, and strategic operations, enabling the delivery of Māori content across Aotearoa and beyond.
Under Andrew’s leadership, Whakaata Māori has successfully transitioned toward a digital-first future. He has overseen major projects including the design and build of a state-of-the-art broadcast studio, comprehensive systems upgrades, and process innovations that improve agility and performance. Known for his collaborative approach and strategic mindset, Andrew ensures technology is an enabler for storytelling, cultural connection, and audience growth.
Before joining Whakaata Māori, Andrew held senior roles at Outside Broadcasting Ltd (Sky Television) and the New Zealand Racing Board. He brings broad sector experience in operational management, content delivery, and technology strategy. He also contributes to the wider broadcasting ecosystem through his role on the Freeview Board.
