Pål Hivand

Pål Hivand is Publishing Editor at NRK Sápmi, the Indigenous service of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation. He is responsible for the entire NRK Sámi content portfolio and also driving the development of fresh, cross-platform formats and content. His department also overseas day-to-day operations and technology.
He is a firm believer that innovation should amplify Indigenous voices, Pål now leads NRK Sápmi’s push into AI-enabled production and R&D, designing ethical and efficient workflows that make Sámi storytelling faster, smarter, and more impactful.
His department collaborates closely with public-service peers across Scandinacia and beyond. Pål’s guiding principle is straightforward: fuse cutting-edge tech with deep cultural insight so Indigenous stories don’t merely keep up with the digital age—they set the agenda for it.
Pål Hivand holds two bachelors degrees in Journalism og Culture and spent over 10 years working for the Sámi Parliament in Norway.
