Paul Shiang (CEO of Hakka TV)
Paul is a fluent speaker of two main Hakka dialects, he has been with Hakka TV since 2004 after receiving his Master degree in Media and Cultural Analysis from Loughborough Uni. in England. He has been a reporter, news anchor, program host, producer and manager of New Department. Starting in 2015, he pays his attention on news literacy for adolescents and involved in producing and hosting youth's program called “Octopus News”. The show covers various current events that interest young viewers, helping them better understand and engage with social issues including a 6-episode series on the Ukraine War.
Paul was appointed CEO of Hakka TV in 2022 as the first employee started at the bottom and worked his way up to become the head of the organization. He proposes a vision of connecting Hakka and the world with Hakka TV via three main approaches: “Hakka TV beyond Hakka, beyond TV and beyond Taiwan”. Under his leadership and the efforts made by his team, the station has just delivered its best performance since its founding. For example, Hakka TV is the only winner in Asia of the Rockie Awards 2024 in Banff Media Festival, Canada. More recently, Paul is the only speaker invited from Taiwan of the 2025 DW Global Media Forum held July 7th to 8th in Bonn, Germany.
